Hi everyone, Welcome to Where is Katie Now!
Here I celebrate traveling enthusiasts who like a little bit of everything, just like me! I am a Jane-of-all-trades, meaning I don't subscribe to the high-end or low end, bohemian, or 5-star. I like dinners at Michelin starred restaurants as much as I like a dive bar. You'll see me cheering on the Yankees and Tottenham Hotspur, but also checking out art museums. I like wild weekends and also enjoy the serenity of a girls' spa weekend. I prefer hotels with style and unique details, but when in a National Park, I try to rough it the way nature intended. I love cooking, but it is definitely not pretty enough for this blog and will leave that to the many food blogs I follow. Mostly, I like to see new things and enjoy a challenge.

At "where is katie now" I'll be sharing tips and tales that people find humorous, but also relevant for people like me. I believe that the perfect moment is anything but perfect, and a picture can never quite capture the moment. I hope you're sitting at home in yoga pants or on a train to work, planning your next big adventure, whether that is a much deserved happy hour this weekend or a bucket list vacation! I have a day job and travel for work quite frequently (there won't be a ton of those trips), but I try to spend a significant amount of my PTO on adventure and fun.

I appreciate beautiful styling and beautiful imagery, BUT here you'll find more substance than style. I'm just not that girl who meticulously plans outfits and perfect lighting, nor do I have an instagram husband (he'd kill me!) I can appreciate those girls, but that's not me. I'm listening to the band at the concert, rather than snapchatting it. I'm more about living in the moment and realizing that no picture will ever do the experience justice. So, if I can help one more person create a wonderful travel experience, then that's really the reason for this passion project. Don't expect flawless photos, but do expect helpful details.

Based on the name of the site, I'm sure you've guessed, I'm Katie! I'm originally from California, did my MBA abroad in Spain, and now consider NYC home. I'm a little more intense than any Californian and definitely more laid back than any New Yorker with a dash of a European soul.
​
I currently live in Manhattan, NYC with my English husband. Like many New Yorkers, our apartment is tiny, but I guess that pushes us to go and see the world around us. We love to explore NYC every weekend we're here, but also have recently started to enjoy the Catskills and Hudson Valley in our backyard. We've been fortunate to travel abroad and throughout the US for family events and friends' weddings. Outside of those events, Paul and I have made travel one of the biggest ways we connect with each other.

Dedication:
My grandmother has traveled to almost every country in the world and she gave me this advice when I was 17: "Go and see the world. You can go on cruises and certain places when you're old, but while you're young and fit, go to the places you can't go to when you're old." I have tried to live by this. Grandma Honey is now 86 and is going to Peru later this year. She is my spirit animal and I dedicate this blog to her- to help the next generation of wanderlusts, who may or may not have to work for 'the man' to fund those trips.
